Dacia published the first images and technical information about Spring. The first electric model Dacia has an urban range of 295 kilometres and is charged in less than an hour with up to 30 kW. Spring will be produced in China.
Dacia presented on Thursday evening the first images of the Spring, the first electric model of the Romanian car manufacturer. Based on the Renault K-ZE model produced in China, the Dacia Spring is a city car with elements specific to a crossover.
Aesthetically, the Spring stands out with its generous bumper, LED headlights and several 3D elements, while the charging port is positioned in the front and opens from inside the car.
The steel rims have an elegant look thanks to the Flexwheel technology, while the back stands out through the robust bumper. The taillights benefit from the new Y-shaped luminous signature, just like the new Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway generation.
The launch edition of the new model will have some exterior details painted in orange, such as the mirror housing, the ornaments located on the back, the outline of the side protection bands and the ornaments on the top of the grille.
Equipment
As standard, the Dacia Spring is equipped with a 3.5-inch diagonal screen that also supports Google or Apple voice recognition systems by pressing a button positioned on the steering wheel.
Optionally, customers can choose a 7-inch touch screen Media Nav multimedia system, navigation system, Bluetooth and USB port, to which is added the compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems. The contour of the central screen and the aerators benefit from blue ornaments, and the chrome rotary selector, which replaces the gearbox, has 3 positions: D, N and R.
Additional equipment available as standard or optional includes 100% electric variable power steering, remote central locking, electric windows, manual air conditioning or rear-view mirrors.
Even if the exterior dimensions are small, Dacia states that the rear passengers have a generous space above the head, while the distance from the knees to the back of the front seats is 100 mm. Dacia claims that Spring also offers the largest trunk in the segment: 300 litres or about 600 litres by folding the rear seats.
Motorization and autonomy
From a technical point of view, Dacia Spring has an electric engine of 44 horsepower and a maximum torque of 125 Nm, and the maximum speed is 125 km / h. The ECO driving mode has the effect of limiting the power to 31 horsepower and the maximum speed to 100 km / h.
The Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 26.8 kWh which ensures a mixed autonomy of 225 kilometres, while the autonomy in urban mode is 295 kilometres. The autonomy increases by almost 10% when using the ECO mode. The Dacia Spring battery can be charged in less than an hour when using a DC charging station with up to 30 kW.
The battery can also be charged at AC charging stations with up to 6.6 kW. Therefore, charging to a 7.4 kW wall box, charging up to 100% takes less than 5 hours.
The time required for full charging increases to 8 and a half hours for a 3.7 kW wall box and about 14 hours when using a standard 2.3 kW socket. The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 120,000 kilometres.
Security systems
Dacia Spring offers numerous safety equipment, including speed limiter, ABS, ESP, electronic brake-force distributor, 6 airbags, emergency call (SOS button), automatic headlight and automatic emergency braking (AEB), active at speeds above 7 km / h.
Optionally, Spring also offers a parking assist system thanks to ultrasonic sensors located on the rear bumper and a reversing camera whose image is displayed on the screen of the multimedia system with dynamic guidelines.
Last but not least, Dacia offers a mobile application, My Dacia, for the smartphone that allows real-time display of the battery level, the autonomy remaining kilometres, enabling remote air conditioning system for heating or cooling the interior and the location of your car in real-time. When Spring is connected to the outlet, the application allows you to display information about the charging level and to activate or deactivate it.
Special versions
Dacia Spring will also receive two special versions. The first is a special version for car-sharing services, which is additionally equipped with a GPS and allows the doors to be opened by using the phone. This version will have a white and light grey body with faux leather seats, a navigation system, reversing camera and rear sensors.
Also, there will be a Cargo version with extra cargo space instead of the rear seat. In this case, the loading length is 1033 mm, the loading volume is 800 litres, and the payload is 325 kilograms.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, radio (with Bluetooth, USB and pre-equipment for a phone/smartphone holder), textile upholstery, exterior door handles, black rear-view mirror housings and wheels with 14-inch steel rims.
The new Dacia Spring will be up for order in the spring of 2021, and deliveries will begin in the fall of 2021. For now, Dacia has not announced the sale prices, but Spring will be “the most affordable electric car in Europe.” Besides, Dacia mentions that there will be two levels of equipment, without providing any details about them. Dacia Spring will be produced in China, at the Shiyan factory, Hubei, which produces the Renault K-ZE.
